Welcome to the City of Mauston Housing Authority (MHA) waiting list application.
This web-based process will assist you in applying for a place on the waiting list for one or more of our housing assistance programs.
Program One: Public Housing. Properties owned by the City of Mauston Housing Authorities. The properties are subsidized and the tenants rent is based on a percentage of the households’ income.
Public Housing Properties:
Forty-Five (45) Unit Apartment Complex (All units are one bedroom)
Single Family Homes or Scattered Sites (Geared Toward Families with 4 or more members)
Four (4) - Three Bedroom Homes
One (1) - Four Bedroom Home
Program Two: Section 8 Tenant- Based Voucher Program. Properties are owned by a third-party private landlord and a subsidy is sent to the landlord on behalf of the tenant, based on the households’ income.
Upon completion of registration, write down the tracking number for your records. Do not create another application in the system for updates,updates must be submitted in writing to the address shown above.
To successfully apply, provide the following information:
Names, birthdates, and social security numbers of all members of your household.
The total gross annual income of your household. This includes Supplemental Security Income (SSI), wages, unemployment, Social Security, General Assistance, child support, and any other income received.
A valid mailing address and email address to which the HA staff can send correspondence. Please make sure that anytime you move, you update your application by writing to us.
A valid phone number at which the HA can contact you.
Applications are only accepted for open waiting lists.
You are only allowed one application.
Applications are available on-line only; no paper applications will be available or accepted.
Eligible applicants received through the website will be entered on the waiting list in the order received (date and time).
Preferences for Section 8 Tenant Based Voucher Program are as follows: Those living in the county, Program Termination due to Insufficient Funding, and/or VAWA (Violence Against Women).
Preferences for the Public Housing Program are as follows: Those living in the county, those Affected by HCV Program Abatement, and/or VAWA (Violence Against Women).

To meet the MHA eligibility criteria:
Provide accurate information. Submission of false information or misrepresentation may result in loss of eligibility to participate in our housing assistance programs. Applicants must have a valid mailing address and/or phone number for contact purpose. Applicants who cannot be contacted will have their file flagged as inactive.

Applicant must not exceed the Very Low-Income Limit if applying for a voucher, or must not exceed the Low Income limit if applying for an apartment at 208 Monroe Street
